Welcome to Hungary, the Hungarian Capital Budapest, which is bisected by the river Danube. Its 19th-century Chain Bridge connects the hilly Buda district with flat Pest. A funicular runs up Castle Hill to Buda’s Old Town, where the Budapest History Museum traces city life from Roman times onward. Trinity Square is home to 13th-century Matthias Church and the turrets of the Fishermen’s Bastion, which offer sweeping views.
After clearing customs we are transferred to our hotel, this afternoon we enjoy an afternoon city tour.
Budapest - Szeged - Budapest
Today we board our coach to travel into the Hungarian countryside, through the plains and farmland to Szeged, we visit Lazlo Czeggged who is currently conducting a EU funded programme on Drought tolerant Wheat. We then visit a local Flourmill and a local family farm growing grain. After lunch we visit Hungarian Dept. Of Agriculture Institute that conducts many trails on grain varieties. We then continue by coach back to Budapest.

Budapest - 9 Day Avalon Cruise “Balkan Discovery“
This afternoon we board our Avalon, luxurious state-of-the-art river cruise vessel for our 9 day River Cruise to Bucharest, once on board and settled into our rooms we relax as our ship departs Budapest at 5:00pm, cruising overnight to Mohacs.
Tonight we enjoy a welcome dinner whilst we cruise along the Danube.

Archaeology, Architecture, and an Ancient Watermill - Join a morning Guided Sightseeing Tour of Mohacs, the quiet Danube harbour town with its historical memorial parks, statues, and distinctive churches. Tour the remarkable medieval St. Nicholas Watermill, one of only a few remaining watermills performing stone-ground grain processing.
CLASSIC - Take a Guided Tour of nearby Pecs to see its 4th-century Christian underground tombs, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with fascinating murals. You'll also enjoy an organ concert on your tour.

CLASSIC - Join a morning Guided Walking Tour of the city of Osijek, located at the confluence of the Danube and Drava Rivers. Visit Tvra, the most well preserved fortress of Croatia, home of many educational institutions.
DISCOVERY - Attend a musical concert performed by the talented young artists of the music school of Osijek at Franjo Kuhac.
This afternoon you might join a Guided Optional Excursion to the famous marshland area of Kopaki rit, where you can choose among multiple activities such as fishing, biking or canoeing.

DISCOVERY - Attend an onboard Lecture to learn about the rich history, destinations, and culture of the Balkan states. Spend your free time exploring the city on your own this afternoon on Knez Mihailova Street-Belgrade's central pedestrian thoroughfare with many lively cafes, shops, and cultural spots. OVERNIGHT CRUISE TO OLTENITA
Avalon Cruise - Oltenita, Romania (Disembarkation) - Bucharest
This morning we disembark our cruise boat and enjoy a scenic coach transfer through the Romanian countryside to the capital, Bucharest - “THE PARIS OF THE EAST”.
On arrival we enjoy a guided city tour of Bucharest with its tree-lined boulevards and Arc de Triomphe - honoring WWI Romanian soldiers. See the Royal Palace Square-the scene of the city's 1989 riots to overthrow the communist dictator Nicolae Ceausescu. Spend some free time exploring this fascinating city on your own to discover its trendy shops, cafes, museums, beautiful homes, and churches along Victory Avenue.
We then check into our centrally located hotel in Bucharest.
This morning is free to wonder and enjoy the sights, this afternoon we travel by coach to Fudelu to visit the Romanian Wheat Institute; here we look at grain and maize trails and visit a local farm before returning to Bucharest
Tonight free to enjoy at one of the many local restaurants, which our guide will recommend.
Bucharest - Barlad
Today we depart by Coach to Barlad, a town of 25 thousand people, in Vaslui County, Romania. It lies on the banks of the Bârlad River, which waters the high plains of Moldavia.
Our drive today takes us through the Romanian countryside and into the Grain belt. On arrival we will meet Lawrence Richmond who works for NCH Capital who farm over 1 million Acres with over 50 farms, Lawrence Manages 2 farms, one in Romania and one in the Ukraine.
Lawrence will join us today as we visit his grain cropping farm as well as tour the area, this part of Romania has recently transformed from small farms and commune farms to foreign investment into Agriculture.
Dinner tonight is at a local restaurant with Lawrence and local farmers.
This morning we continue by coach and travel to the Republic of Moldova, an Eastern European country and former Soviet republic with a population of 3.5 Million and only 20years of being a country, after crossing the border we visit the Village of Raciula, here we visit a local farm and enjoy a traditional lunch. After lunch we travel to the Capital Chisinau, where we enjoy a tour with a local guide where we will see Soviet-style architecture, after our tour we enjoy wine tasting at Asconi Winery.

Chisinau - Odessa
We continue our travel through the Republic of Moldova, with our first visit to a local Vineyard, at Chateau Purcari; here we look at the wine industry in Moldova, and in fact Moldova has the same amount of land under vineyards as Australia. After we cross the border into the Ukraine and make our way to Odessa, the famous Port City in southern Ukraine on the Black Sea. On arrival into Odessa we tour the port city of Odessa and its amazing streets and sights, we also visit the port area of Odessa and a crushing facility owned by Delta Wilmar and the port of Odessa that handles up to 1800 MT per day.
Today a full day tour, we travel by coach to a large wheat growing area near Kherson and look at wheat production and Harvesting. Evening return Odessa and time to enjoy dinner at one of the many restaurants. (Please note that those who wish can choose to have a free day exploring Odessa to enjoy the shopping or beautiful beaches).
Tonight: Special farewell dinner.

Morning free before our transfer to Odessa airport for our flight to St Petersburg, the former capital of Russia.
Tonight maybe enjoy the famous Russian Ballet or join your local guide for dinner at a local restaurant.
WED 19 AUG St Petersburg B
Full day tour of St Petersburg, featuring a walk down fevsky Prospekt ,visit the fortress of St Peter and Paul. After lunch a real highlight will be a visit to the world famous Hermitage and to end the day in this historic city of only 300years old we enjoy a leisurely river cruise. We then take a ride on the underground railway visiting the many magnificent underground stations and there amazing architecture.
Tonight free to enjoy the local food at restaurants selected by our local guide.
THUR 20 AUG St Petersburg- Moscow B
Morning Free in St Petersburg before we take the 12-00pm train to the Capital, Moscow. Today we are travelling business class on our lovely five-hour train trip through the Russian countryside to Moscow, one of the most vivid, dynamic and historic cities on Earth.
FRI 21 AUG Moscow B
You wake up to a beautiful morning in Moscow. Today you marvel at the magnificent architecture of the city, including the grounds of the Kremlin, the stunning St. Basil’s Cathedral and the Novodevichy Convent. You visit the beautifully reconstructed Cathedral of Christ the Savior and pass by the notorious former KGB headquarters, the imposing Soviet architecture of the Russian White House and Lomonosov University, before departing from this bold and charismatic city.
